Now, if only a certain Camaro were to be able to make some passes before fall is over.....

It just seems my luck this year has been bad for the SS. :(

Issues I have now are:

1. Over heating when sitting in slow or stopped traffic. Need to relocate my trans cooler to get more unobstructed airflow through the radiator.

2. Cylinder imbalance. Going to weld on Vbands and see if that solves it.

3. Trans has been shifting jacked up ever since the 6L80. If it's not something in the tune, then I think the TCM is bad.

Takes time to resolve this stuff. It's a good economy and folks have money to burn, so the mechanics are all busy with other cars right now. It probably be next race season before the SS is done and making clean passes on DR's.

When the economy is good, mechanics are busy upgrading new cars.  When the economy is bad, mechanics are busy keeping old ones running.  :tired:

Would love to see it!  Unfortunately, the Shelby will likely not be doing so.  Clutch started slipping last night trying to make a light and I believe it finally decided to leave the building

Danged if it didnt hold JUST long enough to put together a couple awesome nights of racing tho!  Ive known I was on borrowed time with it but when it continued to smell yesterday despite the long highway trip home from the track and multiple trips around town I knew it was coming.  Sure enough, bout a mile from home it slipped.  Slipped again when testing.

Oh well.  Ill start pinching pennies and eventually be able to make something happen.  If I could sell the Wagon, Ide toss a clutch in the Shelby, replace the trans in the 66 and be able to do a little work on the Truck buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut...the Wagon is so good!  Driving it again this morning was a treat.  Grrrrrrrrrrr.

I have a clutch setup, it wont slip.  let me know if you are interested

Ide snatch it up in a heartbeat but combined with the 13/14 clutch master (which makes the pedal heavier) I dont think it would be all that great for DD status.  If I was just racing it/driving it on the weekends I would likely hit you up!!!

Spent a couple hours Sat getting the garage cleared out enough to get the Shelby in and ready to make a huge mess.

Thanks to our recent refinance deal on the house, a nice escrow check showed up and wouldnt you know it...it was roughly what I needed to pick up a new clutch and oem slave.  Happy Birthday indeed!  Parts will be ordered up today and Im going to tackle the job slowly as I get free moments here and there.  Hope I have it high enough to get the giant bastard of a trans out from under it!

If I get it in the car in time I will be doing alot of driving over a short period of time to break it in (properly, no shortcuts) and then Ill see if I can make it out for sure!  If not...oh well, at least its back up and going again!

If by light switch you mean the STUPID dimmer style switch found throughout our house...then yes.  Hate those things but have been too lazy/busy/mostlylazy to swap them out.

Aaaaannnndddddd almost 5 months later, a short drive down the road and Disney putting in a couple tough tough days work, she's back on the road!  Now starts the long slow process of breaking her in properly and avoiding the temptation to give it hell for the next 500 miles.

20200215_151751.jpg

Couple things...

1) I just couldnt psych myself up to get the job going so I finally said enough and called Disney.  After hearing about how much of a bother the job was, I was further convinced that I made the right call as I wouldnt have had a fart in a whirlwind's chance of doing this on the ground.  I cannot, CANNOT thank you enough Disney.

2) I read up everywhere I could about clutches and talked to quite a few people who know their stuff and have been there done that kinda deal before making my decision.  I pulled the trigger on a very pricey (to me) yet best suited clutch to what I wanted to accomplish and could afford.  If I had baller money I woulda gone Mantic BUT even the McLeod RXT was more than I wanted to cough up.  I miss the cheap T5 clutch shopping days LOL.  I got a wicked deal tho and ended up with money to spare in the end.  ANYways, I also read about the issues these clutches can cause, chatter, hard to get the car rolling without bucking, vibrations, noises and the likes.  I was a little concerned that I would hate the car after I got it back because of the nature of the new clutch but after picking it up from Disney's I realized that those "issues" are likely from either bad install or improper break in as I have NO noise or vibration or chatter that the stock clutch didnt already have and to be honest, other than it being very grabby when leaving in first and a bit of a chore in parking lots and very slow traffic, it is way better than the stock clutch ever was.

Its going to take some getting used to rolling out from a dead stop without shuddering ever so slightly (no biggie) and Im almost there and Im HOPING the parking lot, slow traffic, backing out of the driveway shuddering will ease up during the break in and Ill be able to drive around it without much work.  Im now about 60 miles in and driving it everywhere I can to try and stack the miles on so I can get back to being able to abuse the thing!

Awesome!

Maybe someday soon we'll line up.

My junk still has issues right now though, so the track is out of the question until it's fixed.

Anytime!  Ive been wanting to see that thing at the track since two cars ago.  Ive never been offended to see 700+ whp tailights either, and in the off chance you screw up...Ill happily show you mine

I cant wait to get these break-in miles down and get out to a TNT, see if this thing has a TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENY bit more in it in better air and with the new clutch!  Whats more likely to happen is Ill waste the good boost weather shaking the cobwebs off and be good to go as soon as the heat sets in.

That was 100x harder than I ever thought it would be. I mean, a really really tough job. If I ever do another one, the engine and trans will both drop out. They just never meant for the trans to come off of that engine in the car. Simple as that.

Speaking of which, are labor books still in print?  Don't see them listed on Mitchell's site when I was looking awhile back.
