loctite/thread sealer

6 posts in this topic

what's everyone's opinion on using the stuff for stock motor internals? I gotta pull the valve covers and rocker arms and have never used it before. got curious and started reading. seems very opinionated. Unless of course the manual specifically states to use it.

I read that Loctite red shouldn't be used on aluminum. I also read that for some its useless on oil applications (could be the way they prep).

I personally only use it when the manual states it; on external bolts that could come loose.

If internals needed loctite, the manual would call for it.

I just spent 5 min on google trying to figure out what a valve rocker arm cover was  I've never heard it called that...rough morning

Almost like Mike, but I've put it on cam gear bolts before (if the steel locking tangs are missing).  Never anywhere else inside an engine.

I also use it on ring gear and spider pin retainer bolts (as far as oil exposure).
