  1. Going to be converting a 65 coupe to a fastback. Got it yesterday and started gutting it. Interior removed, qtr windows removed, gas tank removed, taillights and qtr extensions off. Not a lot of rust, underside looks pretty good. Front pans will need some work and the trunk has a few holes but nothing crazy. Really solid car

At the rate ive been working this week im going to need a vacation from my vacation. Today i packed the front with Evercoat Lightweight and got the liens looking pretty good. The lower section on the other side was loose so i put some panel bonding on it. I also did a lot of sanding on the drivers side getting the bonding adhesive off the car and fiberglass. I also started to sand down the side scoop so i can feather it towards the door. Then i decided i need to tackle the 1ft section of the drip rail so i cut it off the old section and cut out the coupe front. Then i got it in place and put some panel bonding adhesive on it. I have a flat bar covered in tape under it and left an inch on the front and back to weld into place one it done. Tomorrow ill tackle the other side.. What do yall think about the lower scoops. Would you feather them into the quarter or leave the hard lines?

Removed all the clamps and screws from the drivers side and then proceeded to put the passengers side in place. Once i finished that i got both lower fender brackets fit and welded in. Everything goes in rather easy now and both holes on bottom line up.. Then i beat my passenger side door with a hammer to bend back the "hinge" bend and even the middle of the door back correctly. After that i taped up the front so i can pack it will filler and fit it.

lol! Glad to hear its running smoothly! Im still debating on what Trans will go with my 351. If i go t5 i know i have to go cable due to my power boost and ive already pulled out the z bar. On the other hand im lazy and just want to cruise so AOD seems likea great choice

Another issue i have had is one of the bottom brackets of the fenders would fit the front and things weren't meshing quiet well. So since i couldn't do much else i made brackets to weld on to the lower section of the fender to mat it up. I need to weld it in place but i need to fit it and the passenger side of the front is loose. So why i was at it i hit the loose part with some panel bonding to secure it back in place... It has been over 4 hours and the 8115 is still tacky on the out side edges so certainly leaving it be

3m 8115 done on the drivers side. Now it sits to dry.....Im all out of clamps and it takes at least 4 hours to dry so i guess im done for the day. Kind of a bummer

Spent all of Saturday getting thenpassenger side full of filler and having issues getting holes in the L bracket but got that done and got epoxy on the back of all the panels for adhesion. Spent all of sunday starting to graft in these tail panels. Unfortunately i didnt rememver i put these tail lights in upside down so when starting my fitment i cut the wrong panel. So its a bit short on top but ill get that all squared away. Got the bottom and sides of the passenget side welded in. Took my whole day, measuring cutting. Fitting, re fitting, welding, checking fitment again, and so in. Need to get a cone grinder for my welds and still have a lot of spots to fill in but its getting here. Hopefully the otherside goes smoother

wow thats some real craziness right there! Guess a first for everything
  13. 65 Coupe to Fastback "Phoenix"

well 9+ hours into the day and i got a bit done.First I taped off everything thing on both sides. Then i fitted everything and started to fill all the panels with evercoat and fit them back. I managed to get the drivers side completed and ready for adhesive. After i removed the filled panels i had used a razor to cut the tape so i could leave tape where the panels wouldnt be. Anyone use 3m Panel bonding adhesive before? This is what is recommended for adhering the panels. What are the advantages over well screws?

So i did start the fiberglass backing plates for the taillights but then i got lucky and scored a real one

So ive been fighting with the drivers side fender to the lip area. Ive broke the welds loose and just keep havin problems. Its lined up at top and then gradually comes out as it curves. I had it and took my hammer and dolly set and started persuading it where it belongs. Naturally i didn't hit it extremely hard but it is much better now. It really helped in the beveled in section in the middle. Then i started using the evercoat lightweight to get things flush.

Spent sunday finally getting the door aligned right. Realized i need to push the whole front of the door up, so now its matched up to the fender properly, then a little inward on the top, and adjusting the door jam and its all lined up! Now i can really get going on the body work.
  19. 65 Coupe to Fastback "Phoenix"

Well i have got the r&p installed, 67 tierods installed and so on. I now need to cut the steering shaft down to match up to my epas. Then i can do the finishing touches on it. Just with the tierods in loose it seems like it will be a great setup. I also cleaned up the areas of the car when the panel bonding is and hit it with some eastwood 2k epoxy. So maybe next week ill get it taped off and get the panels fit with filler.

  23. 65 Coupe to Fastback "Phoenix"

Well sometimes laziness pays off. I spent hours fitting the unisteer r&p today. Gribding the lip on the the lca bracket is recommended for the proper fit. No problem, however i had welded in a street or track camber kit for the lca. Its mimics the 67 style adjustment with locking camber plates...luckily i welded those in but never drilled out the lca bracket to match because i had to grind those back out as the bolt head was stick out to far to allow the r&p bracket to sit flush. So here i am 3 hours later finally with the bracket installed.. LolNow i have to call unisteer because i thought thr kit came with 67 and 65 outter tie rod ends and i need 67. Ugh..
